HOUSTON -- Corey Kluber keeps giving the Indians strong starts when they need them. John Brodie Jersey . The right-hander struck out a career-high 14 in seven innings and Cleveland halted its four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Kluber (16-9) allowed one run and seven hits to earn his third straight win. His previous high for strikeouts was 13 against the Chicago White Sox on May 4. He said the strikeouts came down to executing pitches at the right time. "I didnt consistently execute throughout the entire game, but when I needed to make big pitches, I was able to execute," Kluber said. "Yan (Gomes) did a good job back there, leading me through the early part of the game when I didnt quite have that good of stuff." Kluber has allowed four runs over his last 24 1-3 innings with 29 strikeouts. Cleveland manager Terry Francona said his emerging ace looked as strong as ever. "He worked ahead," Francona said. "He usually starts the game out establishing his fastball command; today I think he had to work into it. ... But his stuff is just so late moving and going both directions. Pitching in and opening up away, theres a reason he had those strikeouts." Gomes two-run homer off Darin Downs in the sixth increased Clevelands lead to 4-1. Cody Allen got the last out in the eighth and pitched the ninth for his 21st save. Michael Bourn scored on Carlos Santanas groundout in the first, and the Indians went up 2-1 in the fourth when Lonnie Chisenhall scored on an error by Robbie Grossman after Gomes singled to left field. Houstons Jose Altuve broke Craig Biggios club record for hits in a season with his 211th of the year, a single up the middle in the seventh. Altuve tied the record with a double down the left-field line in the fifth. "When I was a kid growing up watching Craig Biggio and hundreds of players more, you know Biggio is second base," Altuve said. "He got the record. He got 3,000 hits. Hes going to be in the Hall of Fame sooner than later. For me to break the record is very important. I would like to have a career of at least 80 per cent of the success that Biggio did." The 18,381 in attendance gave Altuve a standing ovation for about a minute before he tipped his helmet in both instances. Fireworks went off in the seventh after the record-breaking hit. After the fifth inning, Altuve went over to Biggio, who was sitting with Nolan Ryan to the right of home plate, and shook his hand. "Its special for everybody, and special for me because I have known Jose for a long time," Houston interim manager Tom Lawless said. "I saw him start at the beginning, and for me to witness that tonight is pretty special." Marwin Gonzalez tied it at 1 in the first with an RBI single to score Altuve, who reached on a fielders choice. Alex Presleys RBI single in the eighth cut the Cleveland lead to 4-2. Nick Tropeano (1-1) gave up two runs -- one earned -- and four hits with four strikeouts in five innings. TRAINERS ROOM Indians: INF Zach Walters (right intercostal) had an MRI and "structurally hes good," Francona said. "They checked his ribs, things like that, so hes OK there. So we know its soft tissue; now theyve just got to see how he responds and I think the trainers think this might be pretty quick." ... OF Ryan Raburn (left knee) flew back to Cleveland to have an MRI on Wednesday. Astros: Rookie OF George Springer (left quadriceps) wont play again this season, Lawless said. Springer has been on the disabled list since July 20 with the injury. UP NEXT Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco will be looking to rebound Wednesday when he faces LHP Brett Oberholtzer. Carrasco took his first loss Friday since returning to the rotation in August. Oberholtzer lasted just 4 1-3 innings and allowed four earned runs in his most recent start Friday. Laken Tomlinson Jersey . "Uuufff," was all shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria could come up with after Stantons latest mammoth shot. Deion Sanders Jersey . Lawries batting helmet hit an umpire during his ninth-inning outburst in the Jays 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday. The 22-year-old threw his helmet to the ground and it bounced up and hit home plate umpire Bill Miller on the right hip after Lawrie was called out on strikes for the second out. http://www.custom49ersjersey.com/custom-elijah-lee-jersey-large-2758d.html . "Youre next." Hardly. Iguodala tormented his former team with a game better than any he ever played in eight seasons with the 76ers.GUELPH, Ont. -- The Guelph Storm drew first blood in the Ontario Hockey League final, but head coach Scott Walker looked as if his team had just dropped the opener. Jason Dickinsons goal 57 seconds into overtime gave the Storm a 3-2 win over the North Bay Battalion on Thursday for a 1-0 series lead. But Walker was far from happy with his teams performance. "To be honest with you, we have to play better," Walker said. "We have to focus on winning our battles, skating more and we cant take for granted that were here. They (the Battalion) earned their spot and we earned our spot. We have to start skating and start playing. "We did it in the first and then it was like we werent satisfied. There was something more out there, something better. There isnt anything better than what we were doing in the first." The first period was all Guelph, as they outshot the Battalion 16-6 and beat them to pucks right from the opening faceoff. Holding the leagues most potent offence scoreless in the first period seemed to give North Bay more confidence as the game went on. Battalion head coach Stan Butler was happy with the way his team matched up against the heavily favoured Storm. "I thought we played hard and it was a pretty even game. Once you get in overtime, one shot and its done," Butler said. "They have a great team and thats the style we have to play. We have to play hard, we have to check up ice, track the puck hard and not give them time and space. "If we sit back and watch like we did in the first period and allow them time and space, theyll do serious damage." The Battalion benefited from the scoreless opening 20 minutes by taking iit to the Storm in the second. Trent Dilfer Jersey. They were rewarded early when Ben Thomson, on a power play, snapped a fat rebound past goalie Justin Nichols, who made 32 saves on the night, for a 1-0 lead at 3:06. But Guelphs Brock McGinn evened the scored a minute later. North Bay continued to play a tough defensive game, holding the Storm to just seven shots in the second period. The Battalion regained the lead 3:35 into the third, as Jamie Lewis wrist shot from the faceoff circle found the top corner past Nichols. But Guelph made the most of the few scoring chances it had, and came back to tie the game once again on its second shot of the third period. Robby Fabbri found Mitchell cruising over the blue-line and he ripped a wrist shot over Smith for his 11th goal of the playoffs at 12:23. With the goal, Mitchell moved ahead of teammate Kerby Rychel, into first place in playoff points with 24. Guelph ended the game on its first shot of the extra period, with Dickinson wristing a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle over Smiths glove for his sixth goal of the playoffs. Smith made 27 saves. Guelph finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play, while North Bay was 1-for-2 with the man advantage. North Bay captain Barclay Goodrow said the Battalion are looking forward to stepping back on the ice in less than 24 hours for a chance at evening the series before heading home for Game 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday. "I think the advantage of playing back-to-back is you can get right back at it and you dont lose too much of the momentum you gained from the game before. Hopefully, we come out tomorrow and forget what happened tonight and keep on going." ' ' '
