n streak hangover today. Most are probably wondering where that hot chick that they crashed with last night is and who snuck this ugly lady into their bed.Oh yeah.Sunday felt that bad. The Chargers laid an egg against the Broncos on Sunday. What really stings here is not just that they lost Joe Barksdale Color Rush Jersey , but how they lost. The dreams of home field advantage for the playoffs are out the freaking window. The hopes of winning the AFC West are smashed to pieces. It will be a difficult road to the Super Bowl for the Chargers. Here is why they will not make it:Lack of disciplineThis has been a mark of the Chargers for the last decade. They have had plenty of talent but they never seem to get out of their own way. Sunday was no different as the Chargers committed 14 penalties for a total of 120 yards. The most harmful ones came in the first quarter when penalties single-handedly stalled two drives and the Chargers had to settle for field goals. Then there was the end-of-game meltdown. Melvin Gordon ran the wrong way on second and three. If he hadn’t, the Chargers would have run the ball on third down. Even if they didn’t get a first down, they would have run 40 more seconds off the clock. However, one mistake led to another. On third and seven the Broncos sniffed out the screen, and Rivers chucked it into the dirt instead of scrambling or taking a sack, which gave the Broncos 40 seconds of much needed time. You need to focus when it matters most, and the Chargers have lacked this discipline for a long time.Poor special teams playThe season started with a Tyreek Hill punt return for a touchdown.Later that game Casey Hayward Color Rush Jersey , the Chargers fumbled a punt that the Chiefs turned into a touchdown. Then Caleb Sturgis took center stage. The Chargers, in what could be considered one of the most bizarre football moves in the last decade, fired their punter. It comes as no big surprise that this didn’t solve the problem. One of the Chargers’ top goals at the end of last season was to fix their kicker problem, but now they have regressed and need to fix their punter problem and their kicker problem. The Chargers did catch a bit of luck on special teams when they moved Desmond King into the punt returner role. However, in true Charger fashion they have mysteriously replaced him with Travis Benjamin who has historically made poor decisions in returning punts. Special teams has been a problem for the Chargers for too long of a time.I know George Stewart is a good friend of Anthony Lynn, but I’d rather Lynn have a friendly beer with him on the weekend than ask him to run the special teams unit.Strange personnel decisionsIf you thought getting rid of Caleb Sturgis would have removed the elephant from the room, you were wrong. Jahleel Addae is the new elephant. You only need to look at two big plays from the Chargers game to see why. On Phillip Lindsay’s 41-yard touchdown scamper Melvin Ingram Color Rush Jersey , Addae was playing 15+ yards deep and yet he failed to see Lindsay come straight up the middle of the field. He was one-on-one with him with a 15-yard head start and he failed to get within 5 yards of Lindsay. The other play is Keenum’s pass to Sanders on the final drive. After the completion, Addae totally whiffed the tackle, which allowed Sanders to pick up an additional 25 yards. This play was similar to the whiff that Addae made in the Titans game on their last drive of the game which allowed Lewis to run for 36 yards. The knock on Addae is he takes bad angles, he misses tackles, he has poor tackling fundamentals, he is always lunging instead of keeping his feet and wrapping someone up, he is poor in coverage and he does not have good speed.Yet for some reason Craig Mager Color Rush Jersey , he still plays 100% of the defensive snaps. I do not see how Adrian Phillips could be any worse. My only guess is that someone is trying to save face because they gave Addae a fat contract. You can also put Travis Benjamin on this list. The team was better when he was inactive. He has been back the last two weeks taking offensive snaps from Mike Williams and punt returning duties from Desmond King.A downgrade at both positions.Poor play callingI am not sure how the wide receiver screen is even on the table when you are facing third down and seven yards. The wide receiver screen is one of those all-or-nothing plays. It’s a gadget. You use it on first down to catch a team off guard. When you need seven yards, you put the ball in the hands of one of your best players, Philip Rivers. You give him protection and time to make a good decision. With Allen, Williams, Williams, Ekeler and Gordon as possible threats it seems that odds would be in the Chargers’ favor to get one of them open and make a completion. The problem with Whisenhunt is that sometimes he tries to trick the other team instead of just lining up and saying, “We are better than you. Here it comes. Try to stop us.”The Chargers were the better team on Sunday but they tricked themselves into a loss. During their six-game winning streak the Chargers might have been able to hide their blemishes Jason Verrett Color Rush Jersey , but they showed them on Sunday. The Chargers’ road to the Super Bowl will go through Pittsburgh, Kansas City and New England. It will be a tough task for the Chargers to hide their blemishes under the bright lights of those stadiums. Writer’s Note: I wrote this article at the beginning of the year and have updated it to include 2018 statistics. I believe it is timely considering the heat Rivers took for last week’s loss in which he threw for 400 yards and had an even TD-INT ratio. It is no secret that a team’s odds of winning are lowered if its QB performs poorly. However, many NFL franchises have shown over the last seven seasons that it is not impossible to bail out a QB who delivers a subpar outing. The Chargers do not fit into this group. If Philip Rivers is off, the Chargers have been incapable of overcoming his mistakes. September 25th, 2011 is the last time the Chargers won a game in which Rivers threw more interceptions than total touchdowns–defined as passing and rushing touchdown’s provided by the QB.There have been at least 104 instances since September 25th, 2011 of teams winning a game in which their QB threw more interceptions than total touchdowns. More examples could be found as the below list only focuses on QB’s who have enjoyed a successful season at some point this decade. The only other regular starters who can match what Rivers has gone through during this period are Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers Denzel Perryman Color Rush Jersey , and Colin Kaepernick. Each of them played in fewer games.2018Jared Goff (x2)Deshaun Watson (x2)Mitchell Trubisky (x2) Patrick MahomesNick Foles2017Matt Ryan (x2)Blake Bortles (x2)Marcus MariotaJimmy GaroppoloJameis WinstonTom BradyAndy DaltonCase KeenumMatthew StaffordDak PrescottAlex SmithJosh McCown2016Carson PalmerAlex SmithCarson WentzMarcus MariotaTyrod TaylorBen RoethlisbergerJoe FlaccoAndrew Luck2015 Peyton Manning (x5)Teddy Bridgewater (x4)Ben Roethlisberger (x2)Matt Ryan (x2)Jameis WinstonSam BradfordCase KeenumTyrod TaylorRobert Griffin IIIJoe FlaccoCam NewtonRussell WilsonAndy Dalton2014Andy Dalton (x3)Drew Brees (x2)Russell Wilson (x2)Matthew Stafford (x2)Peyton ManningCarson PalmerRobert Griffin IIIBlake BortlesRyan TannehillKirk Cousins (didn’t play entire game)Case Keenum2013 Carson Palmer (x3)Andy Dalton (x2)Tony RomoAndrew LuckDrew BreesCam NewtonBen RoethlisbergerAlex SmithJoe FlaccoRussell Wilson2012 Eli Manning (x2)Matt Ryan (x2)Russell WilsonAndrew LuckJay CutlerMichael VickMatthew StaffordJoe FlaccoCam NewtonAndy DaltonTony RomoSam BradfordMatt SchaubOct.-Jan. 2011Joe Flacco (x2)Carson Palmer (x2)Jay Cutler (x2)Drew BreesAndy DaltonHere is a quick breakdown of how many times certain quarterbacks appeared on the above list:Andy Dalton – 9 timesCarson Palmer – 7 timesPeyton Manning – 6 timesMatt Ryan – 6 timesJoe Flacco – 6 timesRussell Wilson – 5 timesMatthew Stafford – 4 timesDrew Brees – 4 timesTeddy Bridgewater – 4 timesBen Roethlisberger – 4 timesStats like this list are ignored when judging a QB’s win-loss record. Matt Ryan threw 5 interceptions in a 2012 game with 0 TD’s and emerged victoriously. Peyton Manning walked away with five wins in 2015 in which he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. Most quarterbacks only have a handful of wins via this scenario. It’s the total amount of wins that have been collected which is noteworthy. This is further evidence that Rivers has not been surrounded by well-rounded rosters this decade. The special teams unit, for instance, has been particularly disappointing and his rushing attack has paled in comparison to his peers. An in-depth breakdown of the circumstances Rivers has faced is rarely discussed on mainstream sports shows. There will be the occasional two-minute segment about him, but it doesn’t scratch the surface on the situations he has encountered. This hurts his standing with casual fans, who make up a sizable chunk of the football community.Digging deep into the weeds of his career reveals a treasure chest of ammo to support his Hall of Fame candidacy. That information needs to be given the proper amount of reflection it deserves.
g out of the gate Andre Hal Color Rush Jersey , going up 10-0 thanks to a defensive pass interference penalty on Justin Reid and a dump-off to Jonnu Smith that became a 61 yard touchdown after Tyrann Mathieu turned and chased, leaving the center of the field open. Down, instead of up early, the Texans faced adversity for the first time in forever. They were forced to actually do something on offense. And that they did. Play-action was used to create easier passes. They hammered Lamar Miller on the left side of the line of scrimmage and flirted with 300 rushing yards, thanks to a 97 yard Lamar Miller touchdown run. Demaryius Thomas caught two touchdown passes, thanks to UT solving the unsolved mystery. Watson tiptoed around the pocket and was sharp throughout the game. The Titans couldn’t do what Houston did. They fell behind and wallowed in it like they’ve done all season long. Rather than push the ball downfield and attack Houston’s cornerback talent, they instead dumped it off and dumped it off again. Marcus Mariota was a nice guy, taking sacks and refusing to throw the ball downfield in order to complete every pass except for one. When Tennessee did push it downfield, Corey Davis had three catches on three targets for 89 yards and a touchdown J.J. Watt Color Rush Jersey , all along the deep left sideline. That may not even be the most blasphemous part of Tennessee’s offense; they attempted to convert a 4th and 1 at the three-yard line by giving it to their third string tight end who came into the tackle straight up. What a stupid team. Somewhere, Mike Mularkey is howling. You never go kind of, sort of Exotic Methmouth. It’s like a tribal tattoo. It’s a lifestyle. It’s not something you can run away from. Again, always and forever this year, when the Texans play teams that have to run the ball, they win. When they play teams that can spread Houston out and throw it around, the Texans will probably lose. This was another game where the Texans shut down an offense that is not only run heavy but also terrible at running the ball. As a result, the Texans win. They’ve now won eight games in a row. They are now 8-3 and will play the Cleveland Browns next Sunday at 12 p.m. CST at NRG Stadium. It’s that tradition where I say to myself Deshaun Watson Color Rush Jersey , “You know what, this maybe my favorite time of year,” every weekend, until the fall ends and it gets dark early and everything sucks again. Now is the time to read The Sound and The Fury and put your consciousness into the head of someone else’s in right before Easter, to learn about Geology and dinosaurs and think about how old the Earth is and how much it has changed, read Mary Oliver poetry, listen to The Hotelier’s Goodness, Turnover’s Good Nature, Turnstile’s Time and Space Jadeveon Clowney Color Rush Jersey , and go for runs and breathe it all in, and crack oneself open and let it all come seeping and running out of your ears. Anyways, that’s all I got. It’s your time to talk about whatever it is you want to talk about: the upcoming NFL Draft, favorite flowers, Fiesta plans, block parties, and Jadeveon Clowney’s upcoming contract extension.
TOPEKA Curtis Riley Color Rush Jersey , Kan. (AP) —ng about a shooting in Kansas that killed his best friend and former Washburn University teammate as they stood outside a party where they were celebrating Ballentine being drafted.Ballentine’s testimony at a preliminary hearing Monday came a day after he made his debut with the Giants, who drafted him in the sixth round on April 27 just hours before the shooting. He was wounded and 23-year-old Dwane Simmons, a defensive back who would have been a senior this year for Washburn, was killed. Three other Washburn players in the group were not injured.Francisco Alejandro Mendez, 18, is charged in Shawnee County with first-degree murder Calvin Munson Color Rush Jersey , four counts of attempted first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated robbery in the shooting, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported . After the hearing, Mendez was bound over for trial, with an arraignment scheduled Sept. 26.Ballentine, 23, missed the Giants rookie camp as he recovered from his injuries. He made the team as a cornerback and kick returner and on Sunday Michael Strahan Color Rush Jersey , he returned two kickoffs for 46 yards for the Giants in their season opening 35-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He testified that he and friends spent the day celebrating his draft selection and ended up at an off-campus house party. As the Washburn players were leaving the party they stopped outside to discuss plans for the next day when Ballentine said he noticed a car with no lights turning onto the street. The car slowed and stopped near the group and someone in the car asked the players their names. When one of the football players said, “Don’t worry about all that,” the car pulled forward about 20 feet and stopped. Then Ballentine heard gunshots, he said.“Initially, it was slow,” he said of the gunfire. “Then it started speeding up after I started running.”Investigators said about 20 shots were fired at the five football players.Ballentine said he realized as he was running that he was shot but he kept running to a friend’s nearby house. He tried to call Simmons “but he didn’t pick up” and then called another Washburn teammate to get a ride to the hospital. He didn’t realize until later that Simmons had been killed Kareem Martin Color Rush Jersey , he said.Ballentine said the bullet that ended up in his buttocks near his pelvic bone is still there.Alan Martinez, deputy district coroner for Shawnee County, testified that Simmons died from a single gunshot wound to the forehead.Mendez has been jailed since his arrest May 1 in connection with three robberies allegedly committed a day before the shootings. He is being held on $1 million bond. For the second time this month, the Giants have re-signed a center.Last week the Giants re-signed Jon Halapio, who opened the 2018 season as the Giants’ starting center but only lasted two games before a broken leg knocked him out for the rest of the season. Today the Giants have re-signed Spencer Pulley, who became their starting center for most of the rest of the season after Halapio got hurt.Field Yates of ESPN reports that Pulley will get a three-year Robert Thomas Color Rush Jersey , $9.6 million extension. The 25-year-old Pulley and the 27-year-old Halapio may compete for the starting center position this year, although they both played guard in college so it’s easy to picture one of them moving to guard and both of them being starters this year. The Giants have also agreed to trade for guard Kevin Zeitler, so they’re prioritizing improving the interior of their offensive line.
ason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today is RB Jeff Wilson Mike Person Jersey , Jr." Roster Projections49ers 90-in-90 roster breakdown49ers 90-in-90: Running back Jeff Wilson, Jr.New,20commentsBreaking down the 90 players on the 49ers offseason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today is RB Jeff Wilson, Jr.PDTJeff Wilson, Jr. was a star running back at two small Texas schools: Elkhart HS and North Texas University. He signed with the 49ers as a UDFA, got cut in August and ended up on the practice squad.A succession of injuries in the Niners running backs room gave him his chance in week 12, and he made the most of it, instantly beating out Alfred Morris for the Niner’s backup RB role behind the gimpy-ankled Matt Breida.Wilson racked up 266 yards in 66 carries to finish out the year, an impressive 4.0 yards per attempt. Just as importantly in Kyle Shanahan’s scheme, he was adept as a receiver out of the backfield, hauling in 12 of 15 passes for 98 yards, 8.2 YPC. In the team’s December 2 loss to Seattle, he had more receiving yards (73) than star tight end George Kittle (70), the team’s leading receiver.Basic infoAge: 23Experience: 1 accrued seasonHeight: 6’0”Weight: 194Cap StatusWilson, a UDFA in 2018, signed a 2-year, $1.05 million contract with no guaranteed money when he was promoted from the practice squad at the end of November last season. In reality, it won’t be that much; he earned a pro-rated $170,000 last year (based on the contract’s annual $480,000 rate), so the most he could make over two years is $740,000. If he makes the team and lasts all year, his salary this year will be $570,000; if he’s cut, there’s no dead money Patrick Willis Color Rush Jersey , and the 49ers keep it all. What to expect in 2019:Wilson, Jr. runs hard and is a reliable receiver. He stepped into Shanahan’s offense and picked right up where Matt Breida left, and Raheem Mostert left off, though the success of so many different running backs suggests that Shanahan (and the offensive line) deserve most of the credit and that running backs may be interchangeable (and easily replaceable). There was just one problem with Wilson’s performance last year (and also in college), but it was a big one. He fumbled in three consecutive games, losing two of them, and even had a big drop against Seattle in week 15. Shanahan was going to keep him on the bench the rest of that Seattle game as a result, but when Breida got further injured in overtime, he had no choice. WIlson Jr. came back in, held on to the ball and picked up 23 yards on three consecutive runs to set up the winning field goal.Wilson Jr. does not have the elite speed that Shanahan prefers, running a 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, which may be why he did not have any of the explosion runs that Breida (and hopefully, Jet McKinnon, and Tevin Coleman) get in this scheme. If he makes the team, we can expect more of the same — a hard-running backup RB who keeps this offense moving, with a lower ceiling than the other backs and added anxiety about holding on to the ball.Odds of making the roster:Not good. Alfred Morris is gone, but the running backs room already has Breida, Mostert, McKinnon and Coleman along with essential fullback Kyle Juszczyk. There’s no real upside to his game and a lot of bigger talents with guaranteed money. His best-case scenario is to match last year — get on the practice squad and see if injuries create a role for him. He’s facing much more talented competition, however. The Chiefs have lowered the boom on Patrick Mahomes‘ basketball jones. Do they, or any team, have the right to do it?“Haha yeah that’s gonna work,” 49ers cornerback and NFLPA executive committee member Richard Sherman said on Twitter. “If they don’t want him hooping then put it in the contract. It’s not there so he can do as he pleases. Most players do.”Paragraph 3 of the Standard Player Contract contains broad language regarding activities beyond the football field: “Without prior written consent of the Club, Player will not play football or engage in activities related to football otherwise than for Club or engage in . Player represents that he has special, exceptional and unique knowledge https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Jerick-Mckinnon-Jersey , skill, ability, and experience as a football player, the loss of which cannot be estimated with any certainty and cannot be fairly or adequately compensated by damages. Player therefore agrees that Club will have the right, in addition to any other right which Club may possess, to enjoin Player by appropriate proceedings from playing football or engaging in football-related activities other than for Club or from engaging in any activity other than football which may involve a significant risk of personal injury.” (Emphasis added.)The question becomes whether basketball constitutes an activity that “may involve a significant risk of personal injury.” In other words, is the risk of personal injury “significant”? For minor injuries — cuts, scrapes, contusions, bruises, etc. — the risk is high. Major injuries happen less frequently, but they definitely can and do occur. As Sherman notes, most NFL players play basketball in the offseason. It’s a great way to get exercise, and it’s far safer than playing football. Besides, all forms of exercise entail risk; if the alternative consists of players sitting around doing nothing, teams should embrace the fact that players are trying to stay in shape on their own time.If/when a serious happens away from the team’s facility, the team can place the player on the non-football injury list and, if it so chooses, not pay him. Again, the overriding question is whether the team wants its players staying in shape or playing Fortnite for the seven or eight fortnights between the end of the season and the launch of the formal offseason program, when any injury occurring within the confines of the team’s headquarters would not jeopardize a player’s right to compensation. The Chiefs apparently plan to take a much safer approach with Mahomes. If Mahomes is willing to go along with it, so be it. But if Patrick Mahomes shows up for the start of the offseason program looking more like Patrick Mahouse because he hasn’t been exercising, the Chiefs shouldn’t complain.
KANSAS CITY Darwin Thompson Jersey nfl draft , Mo. (AP) — rning to the Super Bowl for the first time in 49 years, taking the greatest dynasty in NFL history to overtime in the AFC title game.Instead, they are stuck with more heartache for an entire offseason.Yet with All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center for the foreseeable future, and a bevy of young talent around him, the Chiefs believe the foundation is set for a run of continued success not unlike what the New England Patriots have accomplished under Tom Brady.Perhaps their loss to the Pats on Sunday night was merely the start of something special.“Every team’s going to be different year-to-year,” said Mahomes, who capped his phenomenal first year as the starter with 295 yards passing and three touchdowns against the Patriots.“We’ve got a lot of young guys on this team. It hurts. It hurts everybody,” he said. “We knew we had opportunities in that game and throughout this season. We put in the work. We know this can be a building block. It could be something that carries us into the future.”The Chiefs will have some big decisions to make this offseason. Topping the list is whether to extend the rookie contracts of wide receiver Tyreek Hill and defensive tackle Chris Jones Replica Darwin Thompson Jersey , and whether to sign pass rusher Dee Ford to a long-term deal or place the franchise tag on him. They also need to upgrade a defense that struggled all season, then failed to stop the Patriots in the second half and overtime with a shot at the Super Bowl hanging in the balance. The Patriots won the coin toss for the extra session and marched right downfield, scoring the winning touchdown and never letting Mahomes and the NFL’s best offense get on the field.Along with that comes the future of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, who was masterful early in his tenure in Kansas City but has struggled to piece together a serviceable unit the past couple of years. And while Chiefs coach Andy Reid has a track record of being loyal to a fault with his staff, it may be time for a new voice to take over that side of the ball.“I never talk about that here,” Reid said Monday. “I go back and look at everything.”Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will finally have a first-round pick in the draft after the club traded away last year’s pick to move up in 2017 and select Mahomes — a move nobody regrets these days. He also has a pair of second-round choices from their trade of cornerback Marcus Peters. That combined with free agency should provide ample opportunity to upgrade the roster. All of that lies in the future, though. The feeling of disappointment was still raw Monday for a team that won its third consecutive AFC West championship, its first home playoff game in 25 years and came within a frigid breath of beating New England to win the Lamar Hunt Trophy.“Right now it’s the end Stitched Darwin Thompson Jersey ,” Mahomes said, “but hopefully it’s the beginning of a long time.”CONTRACT PRIORITIESThe Chiefs are projected to have about $32 million in salary cap space, but some of that could be used to ensure Hill, Jones and Ford stay in the fold. The Chiefs are also likely to consider extending Kendall Fuller, their only reliable cornerback this season.OTHER FREE AGENTSDefensive end Allen Bailey, wide receiver Chris Conley and center Mitch Morse — who played well when he was healthy — are also due to hit free agency, and there is an argument to be made to keep all of them. Free safety Jordan Lucas was also a bright spot late in the season, but as a restricted free agent the Chiefs should be able to hang onto him.BERRY’S FUTUREChiefs safety Eric Berry only played in three games this season because of a heel issue Darwin Thompson Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , including the AFC title game, and could be headed for offseason surgery. He also played just one game last season before tearing his Achilles tendon. He is set to consume $16.5 million of the salary cap next season, but the Chiefs could save more than $9 million by making him a post-June 1 cut.OTHER AGING STARSJustin Houston played well when he was healthy, but his salary hit of $21.1 million next season represents more than 10 percent of the Chiefs’ cap space. They could get out of the deal with $7.1 million in dead money, but then again, edge rushers are hard to find.BIGGEST HOLESLook for the Chiefs to target help in the secondary, whether at cornerback or safety. Or both. They could also use an upgrade at middle linebacker and another run-stuffing body on the defensive line, and depth at running back and wide receiver would be helpful. d Josh Allen out of the game Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Stitched , and he sure didn't like the way the Buffalo Bills finished without their rookie quarterback. The Oakland Raiders also lost their QB and a receiver in what's looking like a lost first season under Jon Gruden. The Bills fell 20-13 in Houston on Sunday, with the Texans getting the go-ahead score when Johnathan Joseph intercepted Nathan Peterman's pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown with 1:23 remaining.Allen threw for 84 yards and ran for 20 before he was hurt when Houston's Whitney Mercilus hit his right elbow with his helmet after Allen's pass. McDermott was angry about the hit and complained to officials that it was late."We talk about protecting the quarterback and I thought it was late," McDermott said. "But at the end of the day, the officials rule over the game, and obviously, they didn't."Peterman threw two interceptions, the second one coming after Joseph's score."At the end of the game ... he was probably trying to do too much," McDermott said. "I don't want to paint it all bad Greg Gaines Jersey nfl draft , but we've got to protect the football and make sure we're smart."Derek Carr and Amari Cooper both left the Raiders' 27-3 loss to Seattle in London with injuries. Carr was holding his left arm gingerly after getting sacked six times by the Seahawks and wouldn't have returned to the game had Oakland gotten the ball back, though he said afterward he was OK. The bigger concern was for Cooper, the two-time Pro Bowl receiver who was evaluated for a concussion after a helmet-to-helmet hit from safety Bradley McDougald. Gruden believed it should have drawn a penalty."I thought so," Gruden said. "I'm just hoping Amari is OK. I'm not going to say anything else. I hope he's all right. He's a great kid."Wide receiver Seth Roberts also departed because of a concussion with 11 minutes remaining. The Atlanta Falcons also lost multiple receivers, but were able to overcome their departures in a 34-29 victory over Tampa Bay.Calvin Ridley, who was leading the Falcons with six touchdown catches, went out in the first half with an ankle injury and didn't return. Mohamed Sanu was sidelined in the second half with a hip problem after hauling in a 35-yard touchdown pass. Also in that game, the Buccaneers lost defensive tackle Gerald McCoy Womens Greg Gaines Jersey , who walked slowly off the field in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury. It appeared the Rams had lost receiver Cooper Kupp when he was carted off the field after wrenching his left knee when Broncos safety Darian Stewart horse-collared him on the Denver sideline in the second quarter. But he made a surprising return in the second half.In other injury news:—Ravens left guard Alex Lewis was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a neck injury after being hurt in the first minute of the fourth quarter of a victory at Tennessee. Lewis had been blocking on a run by Gus Edwards when he turned away from the pile slowly and went down. Trainers strapped him to a backboard and carted him off the field.Coach John Harbaugh said there's a lot of optimism for Lewis, who was getting a CT scan at the hospital. For the Titans, linebacker Derrick Morgan hurt a shoulder and did not return, and left guard Quinton Spain departed with an injured right shoulder.—Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes limped off in the fourth quarter of Minnesota's victory over Arizona with an apparent left knee injury.—Browns receiver Rod Streater suffered a neck "stinger" while covering a punt in the first quarter and did not return to a loss to the Chargers. His injury complicated Cleveland's issues at wide receiver as Rashard Higgins and Derrick Willies were also out with injuries. Linebackers Joe Schobert and James Burgess went out with hamstring injuries in the second half.—Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa injured an ankle on a fumble in the second quarter of a victory over Indianapolis and didn't return. Safety Marcus Maye left with a hand injury in the third quarter. The Colts, who were already playing without several injured starters, lost receivers Robert Turbin (right shoulder), Ryan Grant (ankle) and Marcus Johnson (right ankle).—Cowboys receiver Tavon Austin was forced out in the second half of a rout of Jacksonville with a groin injury, while the Jaguars lost defensive end Calais Campbell (rib) and tight end Niles Paul (knee). Washington Safety Traders S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix:As a roster gap with Joyner set to exit, it obviously makes sense. The difficulty here is the limited cap room the Rams are operating with. The Rams are working with less than $25m according to Over the Cap. Spotrac estimates Clinton-Dix’s market value to be just under $10m per year. So bringing in the former Green Bay Packers star would bring us to about $15m in available funds. Setting aside about $6m or so for a draft class would leave us $9m or so which would fund a handful or so of key role players...and that would be your offseason. There’s no perfect solution here with DL Ndamukong Suh, LG Rodger Saffold III and Joyner set to exit in free agency with such limited resources. The Rams aren’t flush with cash this year, and we’ve sent a second-round pick and a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out via trades. We’re just going to have to live a bit lean this year in rebuilding around the core that the Rams have put together for Head Coach Sean McVay in the years to come. For what it’s worth as Sessler alludes to, he has three Rams headed out. He has Joyner joining Chicago:Meanwhile, he sends EDGE Dante Fowler Todd Gurley Jersey , Jr., across the NFC West to the San Francisco 49ers:Big Saff heads north to the Minnesota Vikings:And Suh heads back to the AFC to the Indianapolis Colts who have roughly $2.6b in available cap (only slightly joking):The Rams have the bulk of their work to do in re-signing their own key role players, but free agency nonetheless will provide some surprises and may just bring in a new talent for 2019.
nt office Kenyan Drake Jersey , in hopes of building a winner in Miami"The myth that the NFL has an off-season is false. Each and every day NFL teams churn their roster, in hopes of finding the next diamond in the rough. But for some of these NFL teams, their is even more going on behind the scenes. With new head coaches, come assistant coaches and other staff members. And just like with Brian Flores’ staff, when a new front office is assembled, new scouts and executives emerge.Chris Grier already landed an impressive assistant GM in Marvin Allen. He now found himself a rock-star senior personnel executive.According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, the Miami Dolphins are expected to hire ex-Raiders general manager, Reggie McKenzie.McKenzie, 56 Dan Marino Jersey , spent the last six seasons with the Oakland Raiders as general manager.Prior to his time in Oakland, McKenzie worked with the Green Bay Packers’ front office for 17 seasons.McKenzie will be a key addition to Chris Grier’s staff, which includes former Buffalo Bills’ scout Marvin Allen. If all reports are true, he will be joining the Dolphins as a senior personnel executive, and will almost certainly be tasked with helping the team find their quarterback of the future.Do you like the Dolphins signing of Reggie McKenzie? What do you think he will bring to the Dolphins, as they rebuild for the future?Let us know in the comments section below. Most of the OTAs were focused on installing the new offensive and defensive systems the team will use under first-year head coach Brian Flores and his staff. That does not mean individual players and performances were not noticed.Undrafted free agent Preston Williams signed with the Dolphins in May http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-larry-csonka-jersey , joining the team from Colorado State. The 6-foot-4, 210 pound wide receiver has turned some heads during OTAs and, if he can continue to flash during the summer, making a case for a roster spot at the end of the summer.“Preston’s doing a nice job,” quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said this week of Williams. “He’ll make some ‘wow’ plays and he’ll make some plays that remind you that he’s a young guy. Consistency is going to be a big thing with him. In terms of some of the physical features and the way that he can go get the ball and those type of things, he’s been very impressive. Again, he’s working his tail off and it shows and you can tell out here, but there’s also a lot of work that still needs to be put in for him to be able to be trusted and be out there.”Quarterback Josh Rosen, who is competing with Fitzpatrick to be the team’s starter this year Womens Bob Griese Jersey , agreed when asked about Williams. “Really good,” he said of his impression of Williams. “He’s very talented. He’s that big body that the NFL receivers are sort of based off of in that one-on-one position. He’s a big body, a really talented guy with great hands and I’m really looking forward to developing with him.”Fitzpatrick added, when asked about Williams’ attitude on the field after having gone undrafted, saying, “It’s not like we sit down and talk at lunch every day, but he’s definitely flashed. He’s definitely a guy that, as a quarterback, you take notice at some of the plays that he’s making. Like I said Adam Joseph Duhe Jersey , great plays and boneheaded plays. We have to find a consistency there, but he certainly has enough talent to do it.”The Dolphins could use a player with Williams’ size and potential, but he does need to show the consistency about which Fitzpatrick spoke. He could turn into the big-bodied receiver the team needs to pair with the speed options they already have on the roster. If he can develop quickly this summer, Williams could be an undrafted free agent who finds his way onto the Dolphins’ roster - and into gameday action.

The two that don’t come from a couple of guys named Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, and I thought they deserved inclusion. But the other 98 are no older than 17 April, so this is just about as fresh a look as we’re going to get. Before we break down all of the selections, here is the final listing of the 100 mocks that make up the final installment of your Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database.2019 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database, Final VersionSiteNameDateRound 1 (18)Round 2 (50)Round 3 (81)SiteNameDateRound 1 (18)Round 2 (50)Round 3 (81)To finish things off, the offensive linemen just obliterated the rest of the positional groups, more so than in any other installment of our Database thus far. Of the 100 mock drafts we’ve pulled together to make up our Database, a whopping 94 of them have the Vikings taking an offensive lineman with the 18th overall pick. I’m relatively certain that is, by far Rashod Hill Jersey , the biggest share of the “donut” that one position group has ever amassed in the time we’ve been doing this. The dominance of the offensive linemen in this final Database isn’t that much of a surprise. What is a surprise is the name that’s at the top of the list.Throughout this process, Oklahoma offensive lineman Cody Ford has stood atop the heap of offensive linemen as the top choice for the Vikings, and in most of those weeks he had double (or nearly double) the selections of the next-highest player on the list. In this final Database, however, Ford dropped from the top of the mountain into second place. The most mocked player to the Vikings in our final Database is none other than North Carolina State center Garrett Bradbury, who emerges in this update with 33% of the selections. I’m sure this has quite a bit to do with the recency of these drafts, but there’s no denying that Bradbury to the Vikings is gaining some pretty serious momentum. Ford did manage to hang on to second place, picking up 26% of the vote in our final Database.Washington State tackle Andre Dillard finished in the third spot with 10% of the picks, while Alabama tackle Jonah Williams and Boston College guard Chris Lindstrom were tied just behind him witn 9% of the picks each.Kansas State guard Dalton Risner and Mississippi tackle Greg Little each hung on with 3% of the selections to remain in our final Database update Tom Compton Jersey , while Florida tackle Jawaan Taylor slipped in with 1%. The two other offensive linemen that were in our Database last week. . .Kaleb McGary of Washington and Erik McCoy of Texas A&M. . .are both gone this week. So, as you’ve no doubt figured, that doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for non-offensive linemen, as only six selections went to other positions. The only other player to garner multiple selections in this final update was Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who appears twice.Four other players each got one selection this week. They were Mississippi State defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons, Michigan linebacker Devin Bush, Iowa tight end Noah Fant, and Louisiana State cornerback Greedy Williams. Simmons is actually a re-appearance this week after dropping out of the Database last week. Along with McGary and McCoy, Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson and Washington cornerback stayed from start to finish Dan Bailey Jersey , some popped in during the process, and some even disappeared and reappeared again. Only 13 of those 22 players made it into the final update. With that, we’re done with the Mock Draft Database for 2019, but we’ll most certainly be back with it next season. . .you know, provided that Rick Spielman doesn’t do something insane like trade next year’s first rounder or something. We hope you’ve enjoyed the 2019 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database, and we’ll have to see if the Vikings go the direction that most of the mocks think they’re going to go, or if they’ll do what they did last year and buck the trend. We’re less than 24 hours from finding out! A wide receiver for the Vikings in the seventh round"Date of Birth: College: University of OregonDrafted: Seventh round, #239 overallHeight: 6’1”Weight: 197 poundsCareer accomplishments: Second-Team All-Pac 12 (2018)Twitter handle: @DMFM1_With Pick #239 in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Dillon Mitchell Brett Jones Jersey , a wide receiver from the University of Oregon.Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had a sixth-round grade on Mitchell. Here’s what he had to say about him in his scouting report.Early entry receiver hoping to ride the wave of a heavily-targeted, highly productive junior campaign. Mitchell isn’t big, has average speed and loses focus as a pass catcher, but his ball skills show up on tape and he’s a natural talent with the ball in his hands. While his routes are undisciplined at this time, they should get much better with coaching. Mitchell has talent but needs to put the time in and take the coaching in order to become more than a WR4/WR5.Mitchell did have 12 touchdowns in his final season with the Ducks, but it doesn’t sound like Zierlein is super high on him at this point. Maybe Mitchell will prove him wrong.Welcome to Minnesota, Dillon!
After a loss Tyrell Williams Color Rush Jersey , theces me to look back on the game and realize just poorly things went from the first whistle until the last.I give myself a day or so to reflect on what I saw, how I felt, and to allow my fandom to simmer down before I start spouting off my opinion in order to avoid any potential shot at coming off as a homer or anything similar. After the last few seconds on the clock ticked away, it was quite a struggle to peer through the muck in order to find a player or two who actually played well despite the outcome. I found one fairly quickly, to be honest. But the second one feels like pulling teeth.Speaking of pulling teeth, that’s not a bad way to describe what the offense felt like when it was trying to move the ball into Ravens’ territory. I think they crossed mid-field once, maybe twice? Not counting the fumble recovery to start the second half obviously. It was a masterful performance by the Baltimore defense and I believe this was simply a team, match-ups and all, that the Chargers wanted to avoid if they had a chance. I mean, just think about it. The offense thrives on running the football with a quarterback that runs faster than most receivers and has the vision of a great running back. The Chargers do not have athletic defensive tackles that can stop the run and the Bolts’ linebacker group isn’t built to handle the Ravens’ combination of athleticism and power, plus what they can do out of heavy sets was inevitably the downfall when the Chargers don’t have the means to defend it.Guys like Hayes Pullard, Kyle Emanuel, and Jatavis Brown had no chance. On the bright side Derek Watt Color Rush Jersey , the loss was irrelevant to the Chargers’ future as they already punched their ticket to the playoffs last week. And maybe, just maybe, this incredibly humbling throttling by the Ravens will end up being the last wake-up call that this team needs as it heads into their first postseason appearance since 2013.SurgeS Adrian PhillipsFrom the very start of the contest, Phillips looked like his pro bowl selection the premium gas he needed to take his play to the next.It was expected to see a lot of Phillips in this game, in and around the box, to allow the defense the added athleticism needed to contain Jackson as much as possible. The former UDFA paced the team with nine total tackles on the night which included a tackle for loss against Jackson outside of the pocket.Phillips wasn’t the best in coverage but he played his role to the best of his ability, with grit and intensity, and unsurprisingly found his way onto this week’s Surge list.DT Brandon MebaneMebane’s presence in the middle of the defensive line was a welcomed sight in a contest in which the team needed him the most. As you can see below, Mebane came out of Saturday’s contest with the highest game grade on the entire team. Even more impressive is that he was the only one to find himself above a 75.0, placing himself well-above second place with an 87.5.Mebane wasted no time in flashing for the cameras as he played the key role in stalling the Ravens multiple times in the red zone to help preserve a one-score game. In all honesty, this might have been the 33-year-old’s best game of the 2018 campaign. In fact, Mebane’s six total tackles was good enough to be tied for third on the team from the defensive tackle position and ties his season-high that he achieved during both the Rams and Titans games.StaticS Jahleel AddaeJust shoot him straight into the sun. There’s nothing else that needs to be said about this one.Getting him off the team would do absolute wonders for the mental health of the team, the fans Travis Benjamin Color Rush Jersey , and, most importantly, myself. The entire offenseThere is a reason that the top-five player grades given out by Pro Football Focus all belonged to defensive players this week. The offense was flat and, like Coach Lynn stated in his post-game presser, simply out-coached.The offensive line will inevitably get the most flack for the unit’s performance as they collected a healthy dose of holding penalties during some of the game’s most crucial moments. Holding penalties, including one by the captain Russell Okung, were killer.A pair of back-to-back penalties by Keenan Allen that negated two instances of clutch heroics by Rivers was also tough to beat as the biggest kick in the balls on the evening full of them. It’s obvious this wasn’t the Chargers’ best game of the season. In fact, it’s essentially a toss-up between this and the Broncos game as the most dreadful eye-sore spat out by Ken Whisenhunt and company.Only up from here, right? Nearly two decades after its short-lived debut, the XFL has returned—and to LA, specifically. After being first announced in January, the controversial professional league, which originated as a joint venture between WWE and NBC Keenan Allen Color Rush Jersey , is set for a 2020 reboot, complete with eight league-owned franchises. While some of the details of what will separate the XFL from the NFL are still vague, the seasons should not be in direct competition with each other as the XFL is being rumored as a summer league. This should, however, pose a very real annoyance to the LA Galaxy, which also call Stub Hub home that time of year.Fans have already begun to grumble at their soccer venue turning more and more toward gridiron. It is worth noting that even the time of year is not officially confirmed yet.The XFL originally made its mark with sensational storylines and drama-drama-drama as the players were encouraged to date the cheerleaders, criminals were actively courted to play, and the line between ‘professional’ wrestling and ‘professional’ football was only slightly blurred. Vince McMahon’s experiment lasted just one season through its first run back in 2001.But the new XFL, which still has two years to prepare for competition with the NFL and the newly formed Alliance of American Football (among other leagues), took another step toward reality on Wednesday with the reveal of its eight teams and stadiums. Here’s a rundown of which cities will be hosting games when the XFL kicks off again:City: DallasStadium: Globe Life Park in Arlington (Arlington, Texas)City: HoustonStadium: TDECU Stadium (Houston, Texas)City: Los AngelesStadium: StubHub Center (Carson, California)City: New YorkStadium: MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford LaDainian Tomlinson Color Rush Jersey , New Jersey)City: SeattleStadium: CenturyLink Field (Seattle, Washington)City: St. LouisStadium: The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Missouri)City: TampaStadium: Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, Florida)City: Washington, D.C.Stadium: Audi Field (Washington, D.C.)StubHub is not the only NFL home on the list, but it is worth noting that long-rumored San Diego was not one of the final candidates. Football fans closer toward the border should have every expectation of another up-and-coming league filling that void shortly. Finally, it is also worth noting that season tickets are officially available for reservation at Stub Hub. It’s too early to know prices, but for $50 you can reserve your season ticket rights.Season Ticket Benefits:Seat selection in advance of general publicAccess to special eventsConfirmed same seat location for all 2020 home gamesFirst priority for playoff ticket purchasesSo, there you have it! HOUSTON (AP) — ss at home to the New York Giants on Sept. 23 Jon Weeks Color Rush Jersey , they appeared to be headed for a second straight losing season.Instead, the Texans (11-5) won their next nine games and 11 of their last 13, capped by Sunday's 20-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, to clinch the AFC South title."We have a lot bigger goals," J.J. Watt said. "I have a lot bigger goals but it's good. Especially after starting 0-3 and everybody writes you off. Guys in the locker room believed. Guys in the locker room never gave up." Deshaun Watson threw for 234 yards and ran for a touchdown and DeAndre Hopkins had 147 yards receiving in the victory. The Texans will make their fifth playoff appearance after winning the division for the fifth time in franchise history. Houston returns to the postseason for the third time in four years after bouncing back a 4-12 campaign in which Watson and Watt suffered season-ending injuries."The way we started out, it's a testament to the players in that locker room," coach Bill O'Brien said. "They've always hung tough. And to go from 0-3 (and then) go 11-2 in this league is pretty tough to do. Give credit to the players."Houston built a 14-point lead in the first half behind rushing touchdowns by Watson and Lamar Miller and made it 20-3 on a 24-yard field goal with about 11 minutes left. The Jaguars had a chance to cut the lead later in the fourth quarter, but Blake Bortles was intercepted in the end zone by Andre Hal.Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement that his director of football operations, Tom Coughlin Kevin Johnson Color Rush Jersey , has decided to retain coach Doug Marrone and general manager Dave Caldwell — even though the team finished in last place a year after playing in the AFC title game. Khan said he agreed with the decision."We get judged on wins and losses," Marrone said. "Obviously, this year, I didn't do a good job. Period. I'm never going to step away from that. I'm happy with the faith because I do believe I will get this right."The Jaguars (5-11) returned to Bortles as starter after benching the quarterback following a loss to Buffalo on Nov. 25. But he did little to get Jacksonville's offense going, with the Jaguars managing one first down in the opening half and finishing with six. Bortles was 15 of 28 for 107 yards.Watt sacked Bortles 1½ times to finish with 16 this year. Watt has four seasons with 15 or more sacks, second most in NFL history to Reggie White (five). The performance by Hopkins gives him 1,572 yards receiving and 115 receptions this season, both career highs. His catch total tied Andre Johnson (2008) for the most in franchise history."A lot of guys have amazing seasons, but their team isn't where it should be Joel Heath Color Rush Jersey ," Hopkins said. "So I think everything I've been doing has correlated to my team winning, which is even better."KEY PLAYSDede Westbrook muffed a punt late in the first quarter, and Zach Cunningham recovered. Watson capitalized with a 5-yard scramble that made it 10-3 early in the second quarter. The Texans faced a third-and-6 late in the second quarter when Myles Jack deflected a pass and Hopkins grabbed it for a 13-yard gain. Miller ran 7 yards for a touchdown on the next play, dragging two defenders into the end zone to make it 17-3.BAD BEHAVIORCoughlin had strong words for running backs Leonard Fournette and T.J. Yeldon after the game.Fournette, who was inactive because of foot and ankle injuries, and Yeldon were caught by TV cameras sitting on the bench and chatting while the offense had the ball. They were clearly disengaged with teammates and coaches."I am disappointed in the behavior today from T.J. Yeldon and Leonard Fournette," Coughlin said. "They were disrespectful, selfish and their behavior was unbecoming that of a professional football player."TEXANS NUMBERSHopkins is the fourth player in NFL history (Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison and Brandon Marshall) to have at least 100 receptions Greg Mancz Color Rush Jersey , 1,500 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns in multiple seasons. He had 111 receptions for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015.Watson, who ran for 66 yards on Sunday, is the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 4,000 yards (4,165) and 25 touchdowns (26) and rush for 500 yards (551) and five touchdowns in a season.ANDRE AND DEANDREHopkins brought Johnson to the podium with him after the game, and the retired receiver raved about his protege."One thing that I appreciate about him is when he first came into the league he asked me about things he needed to do to better his game," Johnson said. "He took that to a whole other level. To see what he's accomplished Keke Coutee Color Rush Jersey , what he's doing out on the field, it's amazing."INJURIESJaguars: Jacksonville was without starting cornerback A.J. Bouye (toe injury).Texans: Starting cornerback Johnathan Joseph sat out with a neck injury.UP NEXTJaguars: Jacksonville must decide what to do with Bortles before next season. Most believe he won't return in 2019 after going 24-49 as a starter in five seasons. The third overall pick in the 2014 draft also is due to count $21 million against the salary cap, and the Jags can save $9.5 million by cutting him with a post-June 1 designation.Texans: Will host the winner of Sunday night's Colts-Titans game next weekend, barring a tie between those teams. That’s debatable https://www.giantsfanshop.com/hats , but Pulley should have a place on the roster" New York Giants NewsGiants’ 90-man roster: entsThat’s debatable, but Pulley should have a place on the rosterEDTIs there a competition for the starting center job with the New York Giants or isn’t there? Some media observers of OTAs think there will be, and others believe it’s clear Jon Halapio will be the starter. So, where does that leave Spencer Pulley? Let’s focus on Pulley as we continue profiling the 90 players the Giants will bring to training camp this summer. The basicsHeight: 6-foot-4Weight: 308Age: 26Position: CenterExperience: 3How he got hereThe Giants were awarded Pulley on waivers as part of the roster shakeup at the beginning of last season. Pulley had started all 16 games for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, but they decided to move on without him. The Giants, looking for depth on the interior of the offensive line, claimed him.Pulley ended up playing in 13 games and starting nine after Halapio got hurt and the Giants decided to move John Greco from center to guard. Pulley finished the season ranked No. 27 among 39 qualifying centers, per Pro Football Focus. He allowed two sacks and 12 total pressures in 345 pass-blocking snaps. Pulley ranked 25th in pass blocking efficiency. Pulley signed a three-year, $8.25 million ($2.325 million guaranteed) with the Giants during the offseason.2019 outlook So, is there a competition at center or isn’t there? Yours truly happens to be in the camp that believes there is not.Halapio took the overwhelming majority of first-team snaps in the spring, and a good number of second-team snaps working with Daniel Jones. That would leave Pulley as a backup at center and guard, which is actually the role the Giants signed him for. As a backup center, Pulley would seem to be quality depth. The New York Giants are looking to get back on track this Sunday, when they take on the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium. With the Bears in town, Chicago head coach Matt Nagy spent some time with the media on Wednesday. Let’s take a look at the biggest takeaways from the conversation. On his time with Giants head coach Pat Shurmur with the Eagles...“Yeah New York Giants Hoodie , Coach Shurmur was the quarterbacks coach when I was there as an intern my first year,” Nagy said. “What I remember about him is just how good of a teacher he was, the three weeks that I was there with him. The one thing I thought was neat, and this is a story I haven’t really told too many people but it just speaks volumes of who he is. Me being a young guy still playing at the time, I was a player in the Arena League, I was building relationships with that internship. A lot of coaches, you get so busy whether it’s during the season or in the offseason and when you get so many different phone calls from people, and he was the one coach that would always return my phone call or return a text message and ask how I was doing. That went a long way with me. I thought that speaks volumes of who he is as a person, and I always remembered that, I hang on to that and use that when I run into situations now with people calling me and texting me. Take the football side out of it, that’s who he is as a person and I have a lot of respect for him.” On the Khalil Mack trade ...“He’s everything and more than we thought,” Nagy said. “As I tell everybody, you know from going against him, I know from going against him in Kansas City what type of player he was when you have to compete against him. When you bring him into practice and you see who the person is within the four walls of the building, and you see how he is as a human being and his character and how he’s a leader, it just makes it even better.”On who will start at quarterback for the Bears this weekend...“We’ll see http://www.giantsfanshop.com/Dexter-Lawrence-Jersey ,” Nagy said. “We’re still going through that process. Mitch (Trubisky) is getting better, he’s improving each day, we like where he’s at, we’re in a good spot with Chase (Daniel) as well. We will kind of go day by day with it like we’ve done before and see where he’s at.” On what he has saw out of Eli Manning this year...“I have a lot of respect for him,” Nagy said. “I actually coached Eli in the Pro Bowl a few years ago. I got to know him as a person and a player a little bit there and see who he is, and I have a ton of respect for him. For the type of player that he is, the adversity he’s been through, I think that he has just so many strengths, just knowing the game, knowing where to go with the football. I appreciate that. This is not an easy position to play as a quarterback position, and he’s had a lot of success, he’s done well, and I think that we have a big challenge ahead of us this week with him back there as the quarterback.”
offseason. I’m here in Seattle Jimmie Ward Jersey , Washington experiencing what the locals are calling snowpocalypse. Having been born and raised in Boise, Idaho, I’ve seen a snowpocalypse and this isn’t it. It’s supposed to be here for a couple of days, but the city has bought out everything in existence like zombies are coming. I went to a local Fred Meyer to buy my weekly groceries and couldn’t even get my hands on oatmeal. I took the last three boneless skinless chicken breasts they had in stock and tried to improvise what to get this week (I actually went to the organic grocery store where I took out a 30-year fixed interest loan to buy vegetables). But that’s me, I’m stuck in this snowstorm. To be fair, it is rather nasty in Seattle when it snows, and the city is so hilly that it’s crippled until everything melts. How bad is the snow? Well the local casinos shut down when the first blizzard hit on Monday—and that’s NEVER happened. In my days as a blackjack dealer they didn’t care if I couldn’t drive my Nissan Sentra up the interstate in the rare Seattle snowstorms. I had to be there to open up tables. If casinos are shutting down, this storm means business. On the football side, looks like Kyle Shanahan is making some changes. I love the hires, many seem better than what was here before. Wes Welker is great for the wide receivers due to his age (generational differences should help—or I hope) and he played the position at a high level. Welker could flame out, but I think that hire is really going to do wonders, especially when he started his coaching tenure at the bottom. Same thing with Miles Austin coming in for quality control. Shane Day is the only one I’m worried about. Rich Scangarello worked wonders with the quarterbacks and there was no replacing him, sure, but Day, despite his experience has Jay Cutler on his resume. That scares me. I think his experience is great though and Cutler wasn’t awful under him, so this should be interesting. And I got some links for all of you. NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL’s revision of the catch rule figured to grab the spotlight this season. Then the league altered the regulations on using the helmet when making contact on both sides of the ball, basically making it a 15-yard penalty no matter where on the helmet strikes an opponent. Even players on offense and linemen in the trenches are subject to being flagged, with potential fines and ejections for particularly flagrant hits by lowering the helmet.Players are upset. Officials are deeper under the microscope. Fans are wondering why replay review isn’t part of the entire process.Suddenly, the Dez Bryant and Jesse James non-catches are non-issues. It’s all about the helmet hits, which unquestionably need to be removed from the game in a similar way that tacklers launching to make hits pretty much has been eliminated in the pros. Here’s where things stand from a variety of constituencies as we head toward the kickoff of the 2018 schedule:THE LEAGUENFL executives were encouraged that the flags thrown for helmet-initiated hits dropped from 51 through the opening two weeks of the preseason to nine for Week 3 — when many regulars get on the field, though in a limited capacity. Officials have been instructed not to flag incidental or inadvertent contacts with the helmet or facemask by defensive or offensive players. The deeper we get into games that count, the better those with the whistle or ball in their hands or the guys attempting tackles will have a handle on what’s legal.“These are necessary changes where the rules come in,” says Troy Vincent, the NFL’s football operations chief and one of the hardest hitters in the league when he played defensive back from 1992-2006. “As stewards for the long term, the well-being of the players comes first.”Adds Giants owner John Mara, a long-time member of the competition committee that advises rules changes for teams to vote on:“I think officials and players will adapt to the rule, that is what happens every time we have a change based on player safety. There’s an outcry at the beginning that it will change the game, and it never works out that way; statistics don’t bear that out at all. Players should not lower their heads is what it is all about, and we should not have some of the injuries we have seen.”THE OFFICIALSThe rule change has placed the men in stripes in even sharper focus. Simply put, at the current speed of play and with the size and power of players Dwight Clark Color Rush Jersey , any call is difficult. Now, a bit more judgment has been added, with decisions made in split seconds.“It’s still a work in progress because officials need to learn to instinctively read and react to this type of hit that they’ve never looked at before as a foul,” says recently retired referee Terry McAulay, now an analyst for NBC. “So there is going to be some learning curve yet to come, but I think they’re in a much better place than they were a week ago.”One somewhat puzzling question remains: Why isn’t video replay involved when some of these calls, especially if they lead to ejections, can be game changers?Well, it actually is, on a limited basis. Should a player be ejected for initiating helmet contact, Al Riveron and his staff at New York headquarters can affirm or overrule the ejection.“Our charge is, No. 1 player safety: Make it safer in all ways,” Riveron says. “No. 2, make sure we still have a product that is entertaining. And No. 3, find a happy balance with replay and how much it gets involved. We always stop the game to get it right.”Mara believes replay could play a further role if officiating the rule becomes too problematic.“I certainly think are a lot of people who would support adding those calls to instant replay and making them reviewable,” he says, “and I think that’s another discussion we could have in the offseason if it is warranted.”THE DOCTORS AND RESEARCHERSThousands of hours and millions of dollars of data gathering, research, technological innovations and testing helped lead to the new rule. Every penny will have been well spent if usage of the helmet as a weapon disappears.“It’s an offshoot of all that work,” says Jeff Miller, the league’s executive vice president of health and safety initiatives, whose department works with medical professionals, researchers and equipment manufacturers. “An identification of what causes concussions and why there was a troubling increase in them.“We see patterns, the increased velocity of the hits, the positioning of the head and neck … that increase in force and magnitude of a hit, and not just with the crown of the helmet.”Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL’s medical director, believes all the data helped construct a comprehensive story that required immediate action.“Everything we saw said we must act on this,” Sills says of the injury rate for helmet-first hits. “There was a sense of urgency when the data was so compelling to do something now on this.”THE COACHESFor decades, the head was taught to be part of the tackling process. That has changed 180 degrees — at least in the NFL — as the consequences of that technique became so clearly grim and far-reaching.NFL coaches — yes https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Aaron-Burbridge-Jersey , even those who don’t win with regularity — are the elite of the profession. Still, changing a culture that was part of football for so long, and might still be at lower levels of the sport, is challenging.Throw in that some coaches were caught by surprise by the wide-ranging change, and others aren’t truly certain when flags will fly, and there’s concern on every NFL sideline.New Titans coach Mike Vrabel, a Super Bowl-winning linebacker, narrated a league-distributed video on tackles that are kosher and which are outlawed. Yet his team was among the most penalized early in the preseason.“It’s frustrating because I’m not doing a good enough job explaining to them what they’re calling,” Vrabel said during training camp. “I think they look at me like I’m nuts when I say, ‘This is what they’re looking for. This is what they’re calling.’“We just really have to start watching. The helmet thing extends drives. Penalties are going to lead to scoring opportunities; 15 yards is an explosive gain. … To continue to give them the 15-yard penalties is frustrating because I have to do a better job of making sure these guys aren’t using the top of the helmet.”Another worry among coaches is whether the calls on offensive players will be equitable to those on defenders. Former Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, now a CBS analyst, recalled seeing three flags thrown on the defense for helmet-first hits when it was obvious to him that the ball carrier initiated the contact.“It’s a great rule,” he says. “They just have to not over-officiate it. They shouldn’t use the posture of getting in a protective position by the running back before he gets tackled, yet he’s the one making contact with the helmet.”THE PLAYERSUltimately, as anyone involved in any sport will say, the players have to make the plays. And make sure they are permissible plays. It’s not going to be easy at first. According to 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, it won’t be easy ever.Or fair.“It’s an idiotic rule, so there’s no need to go down that road,” Sherman says. “There’s no way you can tackle and play football. I could tackle like that if I was standing still, got on my knees, no one was moving and I was tackling bags or something. But to ask you to do that at full speed?”Adds Texans safety Tyrann Mathieu: “It’s going to be extremely difficult. Obviously, guys are trying to take the initiative to really go about it the right way, but sometimes it’s like, what do you expect a guy to do? Hopefully, we’ll get it corrected and like I said, hopefully it doesn’t take too much money from the guys.“I just don’t know when it’s a foul, when it’s clean. I have no idea.”
argers would be the “home” team for an international game for a second straight year. Many of us assumed that would mean another London game. Turns out Kyle Emanuel Color Rush Jersey , that was (fortunately) an incorrect assumption. This year the Chargers will host a home game in Mexico City! That is a much better international game for the Chargers to draw. First of all, after playing in San Diego for the majority of their existence, there are quite a few Chargers fans in Mexico already. There should be plenty of Bolts jerseys and gear in the crowd when the team takes the field in Mexico City.Second Brandon Mebane Color Rush Jersey , distance wise, this is a much easier trip than London. In fact, this international game is a shorter flight than all of the Chargers away games against teams that aren’t in the AFC West this season. This is good news for the Chargers and the fans in southern California. There has been a lot of talk this year about how Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward has fallen off and is not the player we had grown used to watching on Sundays. There are some statistics that support that narrative to a degree and the eye test did suggest that he was not quite on the level he had been Michael Schofield Color Rush Jersey , but that level was “best cornerback in the NFL,” so there was a lot of room between that and becoming some sort of liability.A Pro Football Focus tweet offers up an incredibly impressive stat that says people may have been writing Hayward off a little too soon. (the pick-two in Denver also said that)Hayward this year has been second only to future Hall of Famer Richard Sherman in coverage snaps per reception allowed with a minimum of 350 coverage snaps played. The graphic says “lockdown,” and it is hard to think of a better adjective to apply to Hayward this season.
DENVER (AP) — Coaches made some curious calls Corey Moore Color Rush Jersey , assertions and admonitions in Week 9 as the NFL cratchers.Oakland coach Jon Gruden insisted the silver and black is still golden, saying he’s getting calls from players dying to play for the Raiders (1-7) next season.Hue Jackson suggested the Browns should have shown more patience before showing him the door with a 3-36-1 record, and his replacement, Gregg Williams, swore he’d turned down multiple head coaching offers since his firing by the Bills in 2003.Matt Patricia, the latest disciple of Bill Belichick to discover just how hard it is to win without Tom Brady, had no problem with a reporter’s question so much as his poor posture, apparently averse to any kind of slump. And Broncos embattled coach Vance Joseph admitted he got greedy in sending Brandon McManus out for a 62-yard field goal with 22 seconds left before halftime Sunday, a costly decision that backfired and resulted in a six-point swing in a gut-wrenching two-point loss to the Texans. RAIDERS NADIRS In an interview with Fox Sports that aired before Oakland’s 34-3 shellacking at the hands of the 49ers, Gruden told Raiders Hall of Famer Howie Long that said his trades of two of his biggest stars in Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper hasn’t affected other players’ desires to play for the Raiders in 2019.“I got a cellphone just like you and everybody else,” Gruden said. “I get a lot of phone calls from people that are dying to come play here. I’m just telling you. They’re dying to play for the Raiders.”Oakland may have nearly $70 million cap space to go with three first-round draft picks next April, but doesn’t talking to potential free agents teeter on tampering? HUE’S VIEW Jackson said he could have turned things around in Cleveland if given more time.“I was surprised that I was not given the opportunity to display what I could do as a play caller with a much more talented roster,” Jackson told Cleveland.com after he was fired along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley following the Browns’ 25th consecutive road loss.Jackson said he thought No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield will be successful but he lamented the Browns passing on quarterbacks Carson Wentz Jordan Thomas Color Rush Jersey , Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes in recent years as Cleveland chose to stockpile draft picks. WILD WILLIAMS The real eye-opener in Cleveland was Williams’ wild claims in his first news conference as interim head coach. Williams had served as defensive coordinator for several teams since his firing as head coach in Buffalo 15 years ago, but he said that was only because he had turned down multiple offers to be a head coach again. He said he had “11 letters sent in to interview for head coaching jobs” and “four of them I didn’t even have to show up, just sign the contract and come.”The NFL suspended Williams for the 2012 season after ruling that while the Saints defensive coordinator he orchestrated a program by which players were paid for knocking opponents from a game.“That thing was a long time ago,” Williams said when asked if he ever imagined being a head coach again. “That’s nothing that we’re talking about now.” SERGEANT SIT-UP-STRAIGHT Detroit’s rookie head coach had a terse exchange with a reporter while discussing the Lions‘ trade of leading receiver Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles, a team they could be fighting in the NFL wild-card race, for a third-round pick, a move that could hurt in the short-term but pay dividends down the road. When the reporter asked why he thought this move makes the Lions better, Patricia snapped, “Do me a favor and just kind of sit up, just like, have a little respect for the process.”This from a coach who wore sweatpants to meet the media during Super Bowl week last February. The reporter promptly sat up straight, asked his question again, and Patricia politely answered. After the Lions’ 24-9 loss at Minnesota in which Matthew Stafford was sacked 10 times Stephen Anderson Color Rush Jersey , the Detroit News trolled Patricia with this bold headline above a photo of the prone QB: “Poor Posture .” VEXED VANCE Joseph lost for the 17th time in 25 games Sunday when Brandon McManus missed a 51-yard field goal as time expired, turning a potential 20-19 thriller into a crushing 19-17 loss to the Texans and former teammate Demaryius Thomas.Joseph was left to answer questions for two days about his questionable decisions at the end of both halves.McManus also missed from 62 yards in the second quarter, leaving the Texans with the ball at the Broncos 48 and 18 seconds left, enough time for Deshaun Watson to get Houston into field goal range itself. The six-point swing proved the difference when McManus missed consecutive field goals for the first time in his five-year NFL career, pushing his 51-yarder wide right as time expired in the fourth quarter.“The one before half, that was totally on me. I was chasing points,” Joseph said Monday. But the game-ender? No apologies for not trying to get closer after reaching the Texans 33.Not with Whitney Mercilus, Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt working against a makeshift line that had lost center Matt Paradis to a broken right leg earlier in the game.Said Joseph: “I wasn’t going to expose our quarterback and our O-line to that pass rush one more time and now if they make a play, now we’re all idiots, right?” The Texans’ best last season are expected to once again be the best this season." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteBattle Red Bloga Houston Texans communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsTexansOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Texans StoriesScheduleRosterStatsYahoo Texans NewsYahoo Texans Team PageYahoo Texans ReportYahoo Texans Depth ChartYahoo Texans TransactionsYahoo Texans PhotosOdds About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub ✕Filed under:2019 Houston Texans OffseasonJ.J. If as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants Daniel Jones Color Rush Jersey , you are going to have to continue waiting. Coach Pat Shurmur made it clear on Monday that Eli Manning will be the starter this Sunday against the Chicago Bears.Shurmur also said that despite the Giants’ 3-8 record “this isn’t player tryouts.”Lauletta, the team’s fourth-round pick, has yet to be active for a game this season. Alex Tanney, who has yet to take a snap, has been the No. 2 quarterback in every game.Shurmur also wondered why media members were short-changing the idea of Tanney eventually seeing some playing time. The Giants, of course, bypassed selecting a quarterback No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, choosing Saquon Barkley instead. Manning said Monday that “I expect to start until I’m told not to.”With the 37-year-old Manning nearing the end of the line with the Giants Daniel Jones Giants Jersey , they need to develop a succession plan. It would seem to start with finding out what they have behind him, especially in the 23-year-old Lauletta. As Shurmur indicated, though, 2019 tryout time is not yet here. With the intrigue surrounding the quarterback position and differences in opinion on who is the top player in the draft and on how positional value will factor into the mix. The result is something of a crap-shoot when it comes to guessing which five prospects will be drafted in the first five selections. It is almost universally assumed that Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa will be one of the first three players selected in the 2019 NFL Draft Deandre Baker Jersey , and certainly drafted in the top five. It is highly unlikely that the New York Giants will have the chance to draft him, but they should do their due diligence anyway.MeasurablesProsPrototypical size and frame for an NFL EDGEExceptional technique and hand usage.Good first step and change of direction.Able to win with speed or power. Simple as that. Nick Bosa is one of those players who fits every scheme, and if he doesn’t fit a scheme, then it is a bad scheme and needs to be replaced.Bosa plays on both sides of the defensive front, lining up in both two and three-point stances, as well as inside in certain sub-packages. He combines a good first step and very good lateral agility with excellent leverage and power throughout his body. On top of that, he has polished pro-ready hands and a variety of pass rush moves which allow him to beat blockers with speed, technique http://www.giantsfanshop.com/Oshane-Ximines-Jersey , or power.Bosa doesn’t have great long speed and some tightness in his hips could limit how well he plays in space. But that being said, if a defensive coordinator is asking him to play in space more than once or twice a game to disguise a zone blitz, then their fitness to call the defense should be questioned. So yes, Bosa fits the Giants’ defense, but it is highly unlikely that he will last anywhere near long enough for them to even consider drafting him.
unday by upsetting their division rival https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Joshua-Garnett-Jersey , the Seattle Seahawks. There’s already tons of media on us breaking the losing streak and how well Deforest Buckner and Nick Mullens played, but the unsung hero is this contest was Solomon Thomas. Checking the box score, you’ll see 2 tackles, but so much of what Thomas accomplished on Sunday won’t show up on any stat sheet.Playing at both inside and outside positions on the defensive line, he was able to consistently cause havoc and control blockers. This allowed for other players to make plays. Today we take a look at some of the film and how Thomas helped San Francisco win the game.First thing I noticed from Thomas was his ability to control the line of scrimmage. He was able to get under his blockers and discard them easily to make the tackle. He also did a great job in the outside of setting the edge and funneling the Seattle run game back into the teeth of the San Francisco defense. Here we have two great examples of Thomas standing up Pro Bowl left tackle Duane Brown. Thomas shows solid technique by jumping outside as to not get hooked, then using his inside arm, he extends and leans in to prevent Brown from getting into his chest. Then as the ball carrier approaches, he tosses him aside and gets in on the action. When the play wasn’t coming Thomas’ way, he showed great quickness down the line to crash down the runner before they could gain any yards. More solid technique as he rushes up the field first, checks for any reverses or bootlegs, then makes a beeline towards the running back. Here’s two great examples of him doing just that.Solomon Thomas played his best on the inside. I’m looking forward to seeing him dominate more from his natural position. While his outside game still needs some work, inside he’s able play well because he’s quick off the ball. It also looks like he’s been working with Buckner on his hand technique as he was beating blockers left and right using similar moves. This first clip is pure power, he stands up the guard, and then tosses him to the side to make the tackle.Thomas also did well for himself in the pass game causing pressure and eating up blockers. This allowed one on ones for other lineman and also kept Fred Warner and Elijah Lee free to roam sideline to sideline. In our first clip, the 49ers use scheme to get Buckner one-on-one in space and it works. Arik Armstead takes a wide rush outside George Kittle Jersey , while Thomas and Ronald Blair run a stunt on the opposite side. Thomas attacks the inside guard so quickly the center is forced to lean over and double him. This leaves Buckner one-on-one with no other lineman close enough to help. Once Buckner beats the guard, he’s untouched toward the QB for the sack.Thomas also caused pressure himself on the quarterback. Here we see some of the hand technique mentioned earlier. He swats the guards hands away and then rips under him to pass by. Wilson is forced to break out of the pocket and is eventually corralled by Buckner.Thomas’ biggest impact on Sunday came late in the game. Did you notice every time there was a big play by Seattle it was called back by a holding call? There were three, two at the end of regulation, and one in overtime. All three were called on the offensive lineman attempting to block Solomon Thomas. I have those clips below. Each time he simply beat the blocker at the point of attack and the lineman was forced to hold him. Each time it was a drive killer and eventually gave San Francisco the ball back to go and win the game.4th quarter, 3rd and 4. Holding. Seahawks forced to punt a few plays later.4th quarter. One Minute left. This would’ve gotten them into field goal range to win but the Seahawks were forced to punt again. Regulation ends in a tie.Overtime. Seahawks driving to win the game, their drive is killed by a third holding call drawn by Thomas. In those three plays alone you can see Thomas has improved. Combine those clips with the rest above and we start to get an idea of his overall growth and ability. There’s a lot of people on this site and in the NFL universe who tagged Thomas a reach, and seem him as a bust. I can admit myself there were game where he was simply invisible. He started the season slow, we often saw him getting beat at the point of attack and pushed around. The last few weeks however he’s been on a tear. He’s also been mentioned on PFF’s “refocused weekly game recap” the last two weeks in a row. While his overall rating isn’t exceptional, his play on the field shows promise of things to come in the upcoming seasons. It’s possible the 49ers will draft an edge rusher with their first round pick in the upcoming draft with hopes of continuing to bolster the pass rush. I do believe in Thomas they have a solid player who has shown some versatility and more important shown he can improve and get better. The sky’s the limit next season. Go Niners! We’re going to look at departures from each position prior to Week 1 of the 2018 season and see how they fared after leaving the San Francisco 49ers. Some players went on to better careers, while others may be out of the league. We won’t be highlighting every transaction, just some notable ones. Today, we look at the backfield. If there’s anything we learned from the running backs in 2018, it’s that A: Kyle Shanahan can identify and coach them up better than anyone else in the league and/or B: the 49ers are loaded at the position. Throughout the season, a new body would come in for someone else be it Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert or Jeff Wilson Jr. Which makes it all the more understanding why they moved on from who they did. While Jerick McKinnon was a nice upgrade K'Waun Williams Color Rush Jersey , Carlos Hyde had the experience in Shanahan’s difficult-to-learn offense. He also couldn’t catch in that offense (a deep Jimmy Garoppolo throw comes to mind here). Here’s a list of the more notable departures, and as far as the running backs go, there’s only two big names to jot down. Note that with some exceptions, many camp bodies, training camp transactions, and roster cuts during the season are not listed. Carlos HydeJoe WilliamsCarlos HydeWhen Carlos Hyde was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, it was clear the 49ers were looking for an eventual replacement for Frank Gore. When the 2014 season ended, the 49ers let Gore walk in free agency, leaving the role all for Hyde’s taking. At the time, all of this made sense. While the 49ers handled the situation about as poorly as one could imagine, the logic made sense. Get younger and cheaper at the position. Hyde wasn’t a bad running back by any stretch of the imagination, but he couldn’t stay healthy and his play of a cannonball shooting through the tackles lacked the vision and patience Gore had. He also had issues catching the ball, made most apparent in Kyle Shanahan’s arrival. As 2017 went on, Hyde relinquished more and more carries to rookie Matt Breida, but https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Marquise-Goodwin-Jersey , as a consummate teammate he was, remained positive on his role and wanted to return in 2018. That didn’t happen. The 49ers signed Jerick McKinnon and Hyde went to the Cleveland Browns. And it got worse. Despite the Browns drafting Nick Chubb early in the 2018 draft (second round, 35th overall), Hyde was the No. 1 back. That didn’t last long. Hyde put together great runs and games, but was dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a midseason trade, giving the Browns their draft pick full reign of the backfield. Hyde turned in respectable numbers for “a Browns team” (63 yards-per game average) but Chubb took things to a whole new level as time went on, further hurting Hyde’s stock. With the Jaguars, Hyde played four games, starting in one and amassing 189 yards in Jacksonville. Combined with his 382 yards in Cleveland, Hyde finished 2018 with 172 rushing attempts, 571 yards, and five touchdowns. The Jaguars had character issues with starter Leonard Fournette, so perhaps Hyde has found a home with the Jaguars, but his 2018 couldn’t have gone any worse from a team commitment standpoint. Joe WilliamsNow we go to the other end of the spectrum. Hyde brought hope and promise, Williams brought questions on if he could make it at the NFL level. The 49ers used a fourth round pick on Williams in the 2017 NFL draft Joe Staley Jersey , but Williams never saw the field in 2017 or 2018. Williams came with some issues, most notable his quitting and returning to the Utah Utes football team. His reasoning was sound as it revolved around his sister’s death in 2006—11 years prior—but it still raised some eyebrows with possible character concerns. It also didn’t help that he was kicked off his previous team that he transferred to Utah from, the University of Connecticut. On the field Williams had some good, but mostly bad. When you thought he got it, he’d fumble the ball, run into his offensive line, or do something to indicate he needed time. Undrafted free agent Matt Breida beat him out in 2017 and the 49ers placed Williams on injured reserve. In 2018, the 49ers waived him, not even bringing him to the practice squad (that was left to someone who got playing time, Jeff Wilson Jr.). That’s enough to say the 49ers had about enough. Williams has not been picked up by any other team in the NFL. Would you like to have either of these running backs back on the team?

(AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera is still fuming about his team’s performance Blue Jordan Scarlett Jersey , saying he won’t tolerate laziness on defense following his team’s 31-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.Carolina’s eighth-year head coach was upset after watching his normally stingy defense allow Matt Ryan and the Falcons to roll up 442 yards on offense Sunday and score on five of their first seven possessions. The Falcons, playing without starting running back Devonta Freeman, ran for 170 yards and Ryan completed 23 of 28 passes for 272 yards and combined for four TDs. Tevin Coleman ran for 107 yards, snapping Carolina’s string of 21 straight games without allowing an opposing running back to run for 100 yards.Rivera described Carolina’s problems as part-mental and part-physical. He said Monday that the team struggled with its run fits on defense and “a couple of times (we were) playing behind and playing a little lazy — and we can’t accept that.”Rivera said the performance was not up to the standard set by former defensive coordinators Sean McDermott and Steve Wilks, both of whom have gone on to become NFL head coaches. The Panthers have consistently been one of the league’s top-ranked defenses since Rivera arrived in 2011.“We are not going to tolerate it Blue Torrey Smith Jersey ,” Rivera said. “We are going to put players out on the field that we believe are doing it our way and playing hard and giving us every opportunity to succeed.”Panthers new defensive coordinator Eric Washington, who was promoted from defensive line coach this past offseason, called it a “tough day at the office.”When asked about Rivera’s comments about the defense being a little lazy, Washington replied, “If that is the way coach characterized it then I will follow suit with that. If we need to play faster Torrey Smith Jersey 2019 , with more effort and more energy than that is what we are going to do.”Washington said the Panthers struggled with the Falcons’ zone-wide blocking scheme. He pointed to the team’s defensive tackles, saying they need to play with better technique and “set the table” for the rest of the defense to make plays.Too often on Sunday, middle linebacker Kuechly’s path to the ball carrier was hindered by blockers getting to the second line of defense.“When we talk about that scheme we emphasize with our defensive tackles they have to play great,” Washington said. “That means they have penetrate and get great edges set and allow our linebackers have to play downhill. A couple of times we weren’t exactly doing that to the degree we’ve done it in the past. It created some indecision with the second level of the defenders. It wasn’t as clean of a look for those guys.”Carolina’s Dontari Poe agreed that he and the team’s other defensive tackles need to be on their game and play more physical against the Falcons, but wouldn’t go as far as to characterize the play of the defense as lazy.“We missed some stuff at times Blue Shaq Thompson Jersey , and a couple of times people could have made plays that they didn’t,” Poe said. “It’s just small things we need to fix.”Washington’s job isn’t going to get any easier this week when the Panthers host the Cincinnati Bengals. The Panthers could be without starting cornerback Donte Jackson (hamstring) and safety Da’Norris Searcy (concussion), which means some adjustments in the secondary. Both players left the Atlanta game with injuries. But he’s confident the Panthers defense will bounce back.“We will shore those things up, and we will be ready to go,” Washington said. “You will see the Panthers defense we are all accustomed to seeing.”
ngham Iron: AAF Open ThreadNew Ronnie Stanley Jersey 2019 ,2commentsFootball!ESTIt’s Week 2 of the AAF and five former Ravens will battle it out on Legion Field as the Birmingham Iron host the Salt Lake Stallions.Game time: Saturday, February 16 @ 2:00 p.m. ETLocation: Legion Field, Birmingham, ALTV: TNTThis is a good Week 2 matchup as the Stallions look to bounce back after losing to the Arizona Hotshots while the Birmingham Iron posted the first shutout in AAF history, beating the Memphis Expresss 26-0.StorylinesCan the Iron steamroll to their second-straight victory? Last week, the defense shut down Christian Hackenberg, holding him to only 10 completions on 23 throws for only 87 yards and an interception. Josh Woodrum, a former Baltimore Ravens quarterback, is the signal caller for the Stallions, though he suffered an injury in Week 1 against the Arizona Hotshots. He posted a similar statline of 10 completions on 22 throws for 103 yards White Mark Ingram Jersey , one TD and one INT. Once injured, Matt Linehan replaced Woodrum and went 7/13 for 56 yards, 1 TD and one INT. If this is all the Stallions’ offense can muster, Birmingham may stay undefeated. The Stallions need the running game to produce. You’d think a running back stable of Brandon Oliver, Matt Asiata and Joel Bouagnon, three former NFL backs, could muster more than 83 yards on 28 attempts (2.96 YPC). If Woodrum is still out, look for Salt Lake to lean on the running game. Will Trent Richardson’s running balance out? Against the Express, Richardson plunged into the endzone twice. Don’t let the two touchdowns deceive you from his usual NFL statline, though: 23 attempts for only 58 yards (2.5 YPC) and a lost fumble. He wasn’t needed often Mark Ingram Jersey 2019 , as Luis Perez aired it out for 252 yards on 19/33 passes, but the defense can’t be relied upon to score two touchdowns like last week. Was it a bad Stallions defense last week, or a great Hotshots offense? In Week 1, the Hotshots trounced the Stallions with the do-it-all quarterback, John Wolford. With 18 completions on 29 attempts, Wolford managed 275 passing yards and four touchdowns. He also added another 23 yards on the ground with eight attempts. The running game also added another 126 yards on 31 carries, good for 4.06 YPC. Salt Lake could easily fall 0-2 on the year if they can’t find a way to stop Perez and Richardson. As I mentioned earlier, there are five former Ravens playing in today’s game. Four for the Stallions and one for the Iron.QB Josh Woodrum (SL)WR Kaelin Clay (SL)WR Kenny Bell (SL)CB Will Davis (SL)Trent Richardson (BIR) Ravens coach John Harbaugh said after his team’s postseason came to an end that he doesn’t think he coached his last game in Baltimore.Harbaugh was asked after the loss to the Chargers whether that was his last game, and he answered, “I don’t believe so. I don’t believe so.”But Harbaugh did leave a little bit of wiggle room Ben Powers Baltimore Ravens Jersey , saying he doesn’t know for sure what the future might hold.“There’s a Bible verse that basically says, ‘Make no oath.’ No one can say what tomorrow is going to bring, other than God willing,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll see what God has in store but I have every expectation, every plan to be here as long as the Ravens want me here, and I believe they want me here.”With the Broncos and Dolphins both interested in making a run at Harbaugh, no one should be shocked if what tomorrow brings is news that Harbaugh is leaving Baltimore. Even if he’s sincere when he says his current expectation is to stay where he is.

The draft is an opportune time to reset and study the adjusted fantasy landscape which we now have after the latest influx of new professional football players. The Atlanta Falcons came out of this draft with (presumably) two new starting offensive lineman for whom they spent a premium in OG Chris Lindstrom and OT Kaleb McGary. They added some depth to the running back corps in the form of Qadree Ollison and Marcus Green, brought in another edge player in John Cominsky, and bolstered the CB depth with Kendall Sheffield and Jordan Miller.Let’s look at the fantasy impact this draft class will have on Atlanta’s fantasy relevant players in the 2019 season.Devonta Freeman If you had to pinpoint one big fantasy winner for the Falcons based on this draft, it would no doubt be Devonta Freeman. It’s no secret that the Falcons would like to run the ball more this coming season, and they seem poised to do so with these offensive line additions.Lindstrom and McGary are run blocking savants who should be able to open up holes which just weren’t there for Atlanta’s run game last season. The Falcons may look to check Freeman’s workload a little bit, in an attempt to keep him fresh and injury free. Ollison and Ito Smith are in that depth role and in position to spell Freeman for a series here and there. The Florida State product should find himself running through some of the widest gaps he’s seen in his career on the carries he does get, however.Expect a drastic improvement to the 27th ranked rushing attack Atlanta showcased in 2018. As long as he retains his role around the goal line and stays healthy, Freeman could end up being a steal if you manage to snag him in the mid-to-late second round, with other fantasy owners maybe weary after his rough 2018.Matt Ryan There has been a concentrated effort to rebuild the offensive line around Matt Ryan this offseason Black Austin Hooper Jersey , and the Falcons have done so by adding three new starters to the unit.Ryan was an elite fantasy quarterback in 2018, finishing as the overall QB2 in standard scoring fantasy leagues — MVP Patrick Mahomes was the only player to score more points at the position. I think Ryan takes a step back from that kind of production in 2019, but he should still remain among the position’s elite.Lindstrom and McGary should prove to be upgrades over Wes Schweitzer/Brandon Fusco and Ryan Schraeder in pass protection, and we should see a decrease in the 42 sacks given up by the Birds in 2018. Expect to see a more dangerous and efficient Ryan in real life as a result, but his raw fantasy statistics will likely take a hit with the greater emphasis on the run game and the expected improvement by the defense.Julio Jones Jones is about as steady as they come at the wide receiver position in fantasy football, but he demands to be taken with a premium pick in exchange for that steadiness. He was the overall WR4 last year in standard scoring leagues. If healthy, Jones is always a lock to be a top 10 scoring fantasy WR. The expectation is that Ryan will have more time to throw when he has to, but that he won’t have to throw as much as a result of a stronger defense and revamped run game with the new additions from the draft. Either way, I expect Jones to get his no matter how much Ryan throws, since he’s the best weapon in football. An improvement from Calvin Ridley will likely take away a few targets from Jones, but it should also take away some of the concentrated attention he gets as well. Julio will be an elite fantasy option in all formats.Calvin Ridley Ridley should improve after getting a year of NFL football under his belt. He very clearly hit a rookie wall in 2018, but should be more adjusted to the grind of a 16-game schedule in his second go-round.The Falcons didn’t add a single receiver in the draft to really threaten his place as Julio Jones’ primary compliment Austin Hooper Jersey 2019 , but I wouldn’t expect to see another year of 10+ receiving touchdowns with a likelier emphasis on ground and pound expected in the red zone this year. Ridley’s organic improvement should keep him on your radar as a weekly FLEX start at minimum in all formats in 2019. He’ll likely produce 1000+ yards, but with a few fewer TDs than he saw in 2018.Mohamed Sanu/Austin Hooper I grouped Sanu and Hooper together because they seem like the biggest fantasy losers as a result of the draft. It’s already been mentioned that an additional emphasis on the run game will likely result in fewer passes attempted by Matt Ryan. Those attempts which will be sacrificed will largely come out of Sanu and Hooper’s targets. Julio Jones will always get his steady amount of looks per game, and Ridley should be in line for an increase in targets in 2019 thanks to his expected organic improvement going into year two.Expect a decrease in Sanu’s 94 targets and Hooper’s 88 targets in 2019. Hooper should still get some looks as a fantasy starter due to how shallow the TE position is but Sanu shouldn’t be anything more than fringe bench piece at best.Atlanta Falcons D/ST The hope is that the Falcons will be able to hold onto the ball longer and control the clock more through a bruising run game, and that that’ll help out the defense as a result. Among the defensive draft picks, I wouldn’t expect anyone other than Sheffield to take up a significant role on the defense in 2019 (and I’m using the word “significant” very loosely), but young depth is always a nice thing to have. The defense should definitely be on your streaming radar in 2019 with the return of injured starters, Dan Quinn now calling the plays, and hopefully more of a controlled clock by the offense. Questions regarding the pass rush keep this unit from being a potential legitimate weekly start, however. Here’s Monday’s edition of Falcoholinks. Dirk Koetter youth Devonta Freeman Jersey , past and present To form a possible template of what to expect from the offense with Dirk Koetter’s return, Falcoholic EIC Dave Choate took a look back at 2012, Koetter’s best year as a coordinator in Atlanta. The passing attack should continue to be the spearhead of the offense, but with the addition of running backs like Devonta Freeman and Ito Smith in the mix, the game on the ground should thrive, as well. A caveat on that last note, however: Koetter’s 2012 offense was woefully inefficient on third down, particularly because of the lack of rushing attempts. When you practically telegraph your disinterest in churning out yards on the ground on third down, other teams will naturally adjust to shut down the pass. That’s been an enduring knock on Koetter’s offenses, and Dave notes that it’s a pretty glaring red flag in his return.Afolabi Laguda waived The Falcons brought in free agent safety Afolabi Laguda in April, signing him to a two-year deal. That contract would not come to fruition, as the team elected to waive Laguda on Saturday. This means that the primary battle for backup spots will take place between J.J. Wilcox Stitched Devonta Freeman Jersey , Sharrod Neasman, and Chris Cooper. Beasley plans to attend mandatory minicampVic Beasley has been noticeably absent from voluntary OTAs, creating quite spirited debates on his lack of attendance. Beasley has been doing his offseason training with Steelers defender and former first-round pick Bud Dupree, and told ESPN that he “will definitely be” at mandatory minicamp when it opens on June 11. FANTASY TIME Yes, it’s that time again. Time for you to to take the first step to avenge last year’s awful fantasy performance, one that left you with a regrettable tattoo, and get going on fantasy football research. Two years ago Christian Kirk Hersey 2019 , Cardinals running back David oth rushing and receiving in the same season. It hasn’t worked out that way, but Johnson’s new coach thinks he has the talent.Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said he believes Johnson can be a matchup nightmare in his offense, and that Johnson is going to make big plays in the passing game this year.“He’s a big back and when you split him out and put him in space like that he looks like a true receiver Black Mason Cole Jersey , so that’s a unique combination,” Kingsbury said. “You get a linebacker on him, you should feel comfortable he’s going to win that one.”In 2017, when Johnson had those big plans to go for 1 Mason Cole Jersey 2019 ,000 yards both rushing and receiving, he got hurt in Week One and missed the rest of the season. In 2018 Johnson was back and started all 16 games, but the Cardinals’ entire offense struggled and Johnson’s numbers were unimpressive. Kingsbury was brought in to turn that offense around. That might mean big numbers for Johnson. We’ve officially entered the poker season for NFL personnel departments, when there’s usually more bluffing than calling. And with teams seeking to determine whether they’ll be able to find another quarterback in the draft Black Chase Edmonds Jersey , Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen remains the wild card.According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Washington is “not actively chasing” Rosen at the moment, which likely means unlikely to pay what the Cardinals are asking for him (if of course they’re asking for anything at all).Washington has basically brought in most of the valid rookie quarterback options for visits (other than Kyler Murray), so the clear preference at the moment is to find someone in the draft.Of course Chase Edmonds Jersey 2019 , that can all change as the draft progresses, and teams jockey for position for one of the four (or five) quarterbacks who could go in the first round.
